ACEC Facilities Committee
FY06 Strategic Plan and Objectives

Facilities Committee Vision:
Promote open communications and enhance relationships between ACEC Member Firms and owners / managers of facilities in the ACEC M/W area of operations.

Facility Committee Objectives:

  1. Serve as a “voice of industry” to facilitate communications between facility owners and member firms.
  2. Disseminate information on capital development programs and other business opportunities to member firms.
  3. Provide networking opportunities to member firms with facility owners / managers.
  4. Monitor industry Design-Build issues.
  5. Provide continuing education to member firms.

Facility Committee Goals (FY06):

  1. Organize two continuing education courses. Possible classes are:
    1. LEEDS Seminar
    2. PPEA Seminar
    3. Secure Infrastructure Design Seminar
    4. Risk / Liability
  2. Grow Committee membership to 20 and encourage active participation of all members in subcommittee activities
  3. Meet with 12 Facility Owners (targets):
    1. Federal:
      • GSA
      • Navy
      • Baltimore District USACE
      • NIH
      • Smithsonian
    2. Virginia Municipal
      • Fairfax County
      • Alexandria
      • Arlington
      • Loudoun
    3. Maryland Municipal
      • PG County
      • Montgomery County
    4. Others
      • George Mason University

Subcommittees:

Design Build Subcommittee:
Current Members - Carl Kemp / Jim Bartlett
Objectives
Design / Build subcommittee draft objectives are as follows; establish a list of design / build benefits and draw backs from an ACEC perspective; three perspectives: engineers in general, small A/E’s and large A/E’s; highlight, explain and prioritize any ACEC concerns; Understand perspective of owners and contractors, list their benefits, draw backs and explain their concerns; prepare issue papers for ACEC concerns, Determine a course of action beyond the white papers; Try to determine the position and direction of owners in our region.

Virginia Subcommittee:
Current Members – Mike Damron
Objectives
Build Committee to monitor Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington and Alexandria capital development. This will require four members, in addition to Mike.

Maryland Subcommittee:
Current Members –
Objectives
Establish Committee to spearhead activities in PG County and Montgomery County.
