ACEC/MW MEETS WITH NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING
COMMAND (NAVFAC)
Representatives from the ACEC/MW Facilities Committee met with
Thomas Cox, P.E. , the newly appointed Design Director of Capital
Improvements with NAVFAC Washington, on January 27. After an introduction
to the mission and function of ACEC/MW, discussion items included
the new organizational structure at NAVFAC and the Navy's preference
of using design/build. The group agreed that quarterly meetings
should be held between ACEC/MW and NAVFAC. For more information,

MWAA WELCOMES ACEC/MW
AVIATION SUBCOMMITTEE
Members of the ACEC/MW Transportation Committee’s Aviation
Subcommittee met with David A. Jones, P.E., MWAA Design Department
Manager on February 11. Discussion topics included the Authority
Design Manual and contents, the advertisement and procurement process
for A/E services, and other specific issues MWAA has with the consulting
community. The Authority’s firm belief in the Quality Based
Selection process was underscored and the Authority continues to
be prepared to take strong action to defend QBS. For more information,
see “Committee Activities”, below.
GETTING TO KNOW YOU
ACEC/MW is launching an ambitious program to update and enhance
its membership database. Much has been done to restructure the database
and to define the appropriate data that we should be tracking to
best serve members. ACEC/MW staff is currently sending out forms
to each member firm updating. If you have questions when your form
arrives, contact James H. Johnson,
ACEC/MW Executive Director, or Rick
Garcia, ACEC/MW Project Coordinator.
ACEC/MW ANNUAL
CONFERENCE
The ACEC/MW Program Committee has been hard planning the upcoming
ACEC/MW Annual Conference. The 2005 meeting will be held May 19
at the Waterford at Fair Oaks in Fairfax, Virginia. There will be
three concurrent tracks including marketing practices, business
industry practices, and business development practices. There will
also be an Awards Luncheon with keynote address by Dr. Stephen Fuller,
an authority on economic, housing, and employment trends in the
Washington, DC metropolitan area. The Committee is introducing vendor
and firm exhibits to the Conference this year. If you are interested
in exhibit space, or know a company that should be approached for
exhibiting, please contact Joe Monahan at 703 450 0800 or jmonahan@alphacorporation.com.
A number of sponsorship opportunities are also available for member
and non-member companies to show their support of the organization.
Registration, exhibit, and sponsorship information will be distributed
via email and on the ACEC/MW website shortly.
