ACEC/MW "FORE" IN THE FALL GOLF OUTING

PAST PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As I begin my year as National Director on behalf of ACEC/MW, I would like to extend my gratitude to our member firms for the honor of serving as President for the past year and your support of our activities throughout the year.

In reflecting on our activities over the past year I am excited about the achievements we have made and the foundation we have laid for more success for our organization and members. Our committees – the heart and soul of our MO as I call it – have been very active in forming industry and agency partnerships at the federal, state and local levels. Our successes in establishing and maintaining dialogue with the USACE, GSA, NAVFAC, VDOT, DDOT, WSSC, Loudoun County and others will bear fruit for our firms for the foreseeable future. The reestablishment of our Environmental Committee has brought added momentum on the committees’ front.

On the educational front we organized two successful seminars – LEED and Design-Build. Both were well attended and have given us ideas for expanding these topics on future seminars. Our luncheon programs were equally well-attended; in fact, all luncheons exceeded prior years’ attendance levels and provided great value to our members through networking with industry peers and leaders from agencies invited to make presentations.

Our year of achievement was crowned with national recognition for our continued membership growth (over 3% from prior year) and our meeting of our PAC goal for the second year in a row (over $9,000 contributed to ACEC/PAC).

Finally, our successful Annual Conference on June 21 gave us the opportunity to gather in record numbers, hear about local industry and market trends and renew our commitment to work as a team to achieve the many business, legislative and education goals in front of us.

May thanks to all for the opportunity to work with you and all the best to Mike Wiercinski, our new President, and the rest of the Board as we embark on a new and promising year of activities.

Philios Angelides
A
CEC/MW National Director

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As the summer draws to a close, the 2007/2008 year is quickly approaching and there is no shortage of plans to be made. I am anxious to begin serving as your president during the upcoming year and I look forward to the challenges and successes we encounter. This organization has been led by great individuals and I am proud to share this honor.

As my first action as President, I would like to extend gratitude towards Past President Philios Angelides for his service to ACEC/MW. His leadership is especially notable in a time when the industry is booming. He is a talented and busy individual and his time and dedication in leading our organization are greatly appreciated. Philios extended an invitation to me on many occasions to join him in working on specific ACEC/MW issues guarantee a smooth changeover in leadership. I look forward to continuing the work set forth by Philios during this last year.

A strong focus during the upcoming year will be to address various challenges and bring the shared interests of the industry to light. We ask your help in this task by participating on the various committees of ACEC/MW to build a stronger organization that is better able to serve our area.

I would like to strengthen our relation with our neighboring member organizations in Maryland and Virginia. We are somewhat unique in our status representing three jurisdictions and I believe our voice and representation will be enhanced with collaboration with these adjacent organizations. Many of our firms are members in Maryland and Virginia; a strong partnership will benefit all.

During the next year, it is also my goal to increase the exposure of the Legislative Committee. Interaction with our elected officials better positions us to monitor and provide input / testimony to impending legislation that affect the objectives of member firms, other members of the profession, allied professions and industries.

I look forward to the upcoming year and working with the Board, Executive Director, Committee Chairs and all ACEC/MW member firms during 2007/2008. This year, we will promote and share our message that “ACEC/MW is the Voice of Metropolitan Washington’s Engineering Community” and continue to build strong relationships with our clients and the entire community.
