Preorder Virginia's New Professional Engineer License Plate
You can be one of the first people to receive Virginia's new Professional Engineer license plate for your car or motorcycle.

You can preorder the plate for $10 for a standard plate, or $20 for a personalized plate.
How To Preorder Your License Plate
The Virginia plate is not yet available at the tag offices or the DMV website, so please use the form available below. We must secure 450 preorders to make the plate official in 2024.

- If you do not want a personalized plate, choose option C. You will be issued a NEW plate number.
- The maximum number of characters for a personalized plate is 6. You may visit the DMV website to see if your request is available.
- You can NOT send in renewal payments with this application. They will not be accepted.

FAQs
Q: What if I already have a personalized Virginia plate?
A: You can transfer your existing personalization to your new plate as long as it is 6 digits or less.
Q: What if my current registration expires soon? Should I renew it?
A: Yes, please renew your registration and keep your tabs current.
Q: Do you have a multiyear renewal?
A: The Virginia DMV will invoice separately for the extra years.
Q: Do I have to be a Professional Engineer to preorder the plate?
A: No, you are not required to be a PE. Maybe you just think PEs are really cool. We appreciate your support!
Q: When will I receive my license plate?
A: Once we secure 450 preorders for the PE license plate, the Virginia Legislature can give final approval in January 2024 for the plate to go into production. Each new preorder gets us closer to seeing this attractive plate on the road. Our target is mid-year 2024 for people to receive the new plates, but the effort may take us until 2025.
Q: What if you do not reach the 450 minimum preorder requirement by January 2024?
We may need to continue our effort through 2025. If we remain unsuccessful, then we will refund your payment.
About the Professional Engineer License Plate
We are excited to present the Professional Engineer License Plate! We need to receive 450 advance applications to have a new specialty license plate from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in 2024.
Cost

How It Works
The pre-order applications and the plate fees must be sent to ACEC/MW (not to the DMV) and we will hold the checks and money orders until we reach our minimum. Once we have collected at least 450 prepaid applications for the new plate, a bill will be submitted to the Virginia General Assembly for the 2024 session to designate the plate as an official Virginia license plate.
