Hanif Drzal, Chair of the ACEC/MW Programs Committee, shares a preview of this year's revitalized EEA Gala
This year's Engineering Excellence Awards Gala is sure to be a special event for our members and the AEC community throughout the DMV. It will be held on December 4th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on the top floor of the Key Bridge Marriott…the view itself is amazingly spectacular, so you will want to be there to enjoy it for yourself! In addition to traditional Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum sponsorships, we are offering several specialty sponsorships this year including Dessert Sponsor, Wine at the Table Sponsor and Bar Sponsor. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the organization and showcase your firm and its generosity.
As a way of giving back combined with the spirit of the season, we are also holding a toy drive to benefit Toys for Tots. Please bring a new unwrapped toy to the event so that we can spread the “gift of abundance” to those who are less fortunate.
We're adding a few new elements to our program this year. There will be on-site voting for the “People's Choice Award” – the favorite EEA Project. All Gala attendees will have a chance to check out the photographic display boards showcasing the EEA Projects and vote. We'll have a silent auction with proceeds to benefit a new ACEC/MW scholarship fund. And we'll also be giving “Legislator or the Year” and “Engineering Industry Leadership” Awards at the event.
As if those were not enough reasons to attend, don't forget about the awards themselves. This year we received 20 fantastic entries. Bet you can't wait to see if your entry receives an Honor Award or is one of the two Grand Award Recipients!
As for myself, I have been recently appointed as the ACEC/MW Program Committee Chair as of September 2019. I am very humbled and honored to serve the organization. Our mission is to conceptualize and plan monthly Business Opportunities Luncheons, seminars, annual meeting, breakfast roundtables and special events. Our goal for these events is to educate and share information that is pertinent to what we do in our industry in the DMV area. We collaborate with other various committees such as Facilities, Transportation, etc. within our organization as well as other professional organization such as CMAA, SAME, and more. If you are interested in getting involved with the Program Committee, please do not hesitate to contact us!

I am the Director of Operations for WBCM, and our office is strategically located in Reston - the heart of Northern Virginia near the Wiehle-Reston East Metro stop. I am utilizing my experience of more than 20 years as a Licensed Professional Engineer in both the private and public sectors to provide our clients with innovative and sustainable solutions. I earned my Bachelor of Science as well as a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
